Best Practise for initial import of an existing library

Hi everybody,

I wonder if you have any pointers for importing a whole libary into AEM from scratch. I have been testing various options and switches but thus far, the results achived are not yet satisfying. As we are talking about a large library the time the import takes is not the matter. I'd rather hope for an "as automatic as possible" approach. I am also willing to rename the source fiules, if that is what it takes.

The main issue I face is, that apparantly no series data is added to the book information. As I mainly collect whole series this is somewhat tedious ;-)

What I have to work with now:
- no .opf files or anything other than
- epubs and pdf files structured in folders like this:
A
|_Author, Adam A.
_____________|_Author, Adam A.. - Series 01 - Title 1.epub
_____________|_Author, Adam A.. - Series 01 - Title 1.pdf
_____________|_Author, Adam A.. - Series 01 - Title 2.epub
_____________|_Author, Adam A.. - Series 02 - Title 1.epub
_____________|_Author, Adam A.. - Series 02 - Title 2.epub
_____________|_Author, Adam A.. - Series 02 - Title 3.epub
_____________|_Author, Adam A.. - Series 02 - Title 3.pdf

Any chance to add the series information while importing? Whats the best approach for that?

Thanks for taking the time to read this :-)

SirJohn,
Alfa can't retrieve Series from folder title. Maybe your files have series in metadata?
Otherwise, you'll need to assign series to several books using "Edit Books" tool

Hi and thanks for your kind reply. One more question though:

Is it correct, that you cannot edit the series data on multiple books at once but you have to open each book individually to add this information? Or am I missing something?

If it is individual books only, I'd like to open a feature request: bulk editing of multiple books ;-)

Thanks again for your support,

SirJohn

SirJohn,
This tool allows to edit Series, Genre, Author and other fields in multiple books at once:

Wow!!! That was an Information... I was also looking for editing details on Multiple books at once and couldn't figure it out. Thanks admin for the answer and SirJohn for asking the question. :-)

Howdy all,

same as Sir John, I tend to collect books in series and not been able to retrieve Series information from filename is a huge drawback for me, as my library is quite extensive and not all of my books have metadata embedded and manually editing every single series (with multiple books editor) is out of the question. Is such option planned for some future update, maybe through regular expressions or user customized filters, as I am really drawn to AEM but without this option it just doesn't cut it for me?

Thanks in advance.

We'll consider adding Filename parser in one of the next releases

THAT would be marvellous in so many ways! I keep my fingers crossed :-)

Thanks for the consideration!!

Hi Alfa Team,

Do you have any news on the filename parser as of yet? Still under consideration?

yes, unfortunately we had no more requests about this feature.
Please, if anybody else wants this, please inform us here

hi team/ Admin,

sorry for possibly a newbie question, but:
once added ebooks to Alfa and properly parse all required for me information - will this info 'flow' to ebooks (at least fb2's)?
Or this should be done manually afterwards ?

admin

if you mean rewriting metadata inside ebook file - it can be done only manually from the book card

thanks a lot for a guide
is it possible to expect 'bulk ebook metadata re-writing' in future releases?

yes

Hi Admin,

Trying to workout my ebook collection (including amendment of ebook metadata) and have found some issues :(

* if book contains both Title and Subtitle by pressing 'Set from Book Card' to metadata flows only Title information (without SubTitle)
* when getting Authors from Book Card - the first (by order) Author flow as just 'Author'
* didn't get the idea how the authors from BookCard and BookMetaData are compared: i.e. I have 'Philip K Dick' in BookCard and 'Philip Kindred Dick' in BookMetaData. I'd expect that author from MetaData is substituted by author from BookCard, but no - it is remained unchanged

what is the file type of the ebook, that you write metadata in?

fb2

* fb2 doesn't have subtitle field
* probably you added author named "author" (which is set by default)
* the name should be overwritten. please send us the book file if it isn't (support@alfaebooks.com)
