New issue with pulling data from audible

I've been encountering an issue with doing a web search using audible. I will obtain a result sometimes, but most of my requests will yield no result. And this is for the same search string, so it's not because it can't be found. Is anyone aware of an issue?

Usually what will happen is I will get the process indicator for only a brief period of time. When it takes a little longer, that's when I know it's working.

MartineV , please give us some examples of search strings

MartineV
MartineV's picture

For example, I am searching for The Life She Wants - Robyn Carr. I tried The Life She Wants and I tried just Robyn Carr. No dice.
Other examples: The Jungle Book
Age of Myth
With Love From the Inside - Angela Pisel
The Brotherhood of the Wheel

I tested a few of the books for which I successfully conducted a web search. They also are not bringing up any results. So something has changed on their end.

If I do a search using the very same search on Amazon, I get a result, so I know it's not the search string that's the issue

This is very annoying to me, as I am using Alfa to manage my audible audiobook library, so without that, the software isn't of any use to me.

ok, we fixed it. please update the plugins (Tools->Update Plugins)

MartineV
MartineV's picture

Tried updating the plugins and it indicated that it's up to date. Tried the search string again but it's not working.

Not sure my plugins updated.

My version indicates : 6.8.5.22182

MartineV
MartineV's picture

Okay, I upgraded to the latest version (7.0.0.1) and updated the plugins. The update appears to break the web search altogether

Here is the error message https://imgur.com/a/TpqfM

admin's picture

Hi, I sent you the plugins file with instructions by email

MartineV
MartineV's picture

Getting an error after I installed the plug in. System Not Supported Exception. An attempt was made to load an assembly from a network location which would have caused the assembly to be sandboxed in previous versions of the >NET framework. This release of the .NET framework does not enable CAS policy by default, so this load may be dangerous.

ok, probably this is hotmail protection.
please delete the plugins file and then update plugins (Tools -> Update Plugins) again

This was a pain in the butt. I tried various things and kept getting errors. And yes, one of them was the protection thing, which I fixed. Eventually, after reinstalling a dozen times, I settled for using version 7.0.0.1 to which I just upgraded and using the plugin that I downloaded from Tools. It's version 7.2.0.17090 and the plugin is dated 27/9. The version you sent me was the basic version and I have the pro version

Unfortunately, it's still not working. I'm still getting no results after a very quick search. Too quick. Because I know that when it's having trouble finding something, the search is much much longer. These searches barely last 5 seconds.

Then I tried the version you sent me which is 7.1.0.1 with plugin 7.2.0.25798

Unfortunately, it's still not working. I'm still getting no results after a very quick search. Too quick. Because I know that when it's having trouble finding something, the search is much much longer. These searches barely last 5 seconds.

This current iteration, I am getting an error message. So to get here, I installed your version, activated the product and then downloaded the plugin from tools (7.2.0.25798). I closed the manager and reopened it. This is what I get trying to do a search. If I copy version 7.2.0.25798, (after unblocking it), the search does not crash, but does not return anything.

Martine,
Ok, let's do the clean install.

Please backup your database (by default it's here C/Users/USER/AppData/Roaming/Alfa.NetSoft/Alfa Ebooks Manager/mylibrary.sdf)

Then delete folders
C/Users/USER/AppData/Roaming/Alfa.NetSoft/
C/Users/USER/AppData/Local/Alfa.NetSoft/

Then install the latest version http://alfaebooks.com/files/alfa.zip and enter the License Key we sent to you.
Update the plugins (Tools -> Update Plugins) and everything should work

MartineV

Tried all the steps. Uninstalled the app, deleted the folders
Reinstalled from the link, activated the copy, updated from tools, restarted the program
Getting this error :

Martine,
We have built the new plugins in the new install file. Please repeat the procedure:

1. Uninstall the program and delete folders
C/Users/USER/AppData/Roaming/Alfa.NetSoft/
C/Users/USER/AppData/Local/Alfa.NetSoft/

2. Download and install the latest version http://alfaebooks.com/files/alfa.zip

I am no longer getting any crashes, but am still not able to use the search tool. I tried from a completly clean install and from your default database. It will not find any book on audible at all, either using the search tool or add from web.

However, there is a new issue

My original library had 664 books. After the clean reinstall, I have 110 books (which seem to have lost their pointer to the actual file). If I replace the user.config with my old user.config, all my books are back.

admin
admin's picture

Martine,

Audible search is working. Please make sure that you deleted the old plugins file and installed the latest version http://alfaebooks.com/files/alfa.zip

The number of displayed books doesn't depend on the config file. It depends only on the database you open. Please make sure that you open the right database. Or send us your database file to support@alfaebooks.com

MartineV
MartineV's picture

I have triple checked this. This is what I have done several times
Uninstall Elfa ebooks manager
Removed C:\Users\Martine\AppData\Roaming\Alfa.NetSoft
Removed C:\Users\Martine\AppData\Local\Alfa.NetSoft

Reinstalled Elfa ebooks manager from the latest link
Activated it using my license key
Opened the default sample library file (as a test)
Unchecked the default amazon.com and checked audible.com
Performed a search on some of the default books ... no search result.
Performed an "add from web" for a couple of the default books titles ...no search results
The search is always very quick, which tells me that it's not working properly, as normally a book that isn't found will take much longer

One thing that occurred to me, however. I am from Canada. I know that Audible has launched their audible.ca site. I did notice there seems to be some re-direction going on, as the first time you launch audible.com from a new browser, it will try to redirect you to audible.ca. Could this be what is happening?

MartineV
MartineV's picture

I think I am on to something. I just tried going to audible.com from a clean browser. It automatically redirects me :

Audible Canada is now Live!

Based on your location, you have been redirected to Audible.Ca, our dedicated site for Canadian listeners.

Then I have a button to go on to audible.com or to check out the new site.

admin
admin's picture

Martine, yes this may be the reason. We'll try to add support of audible.ca

MartineV
MartineV's picture

Thanks. I don't use audible.ca, and I don't think it matters very much for most users. Is there any way you can deal with the redirection and force it to go to audible.com? I know that Audible lets you continue to use audible.com after it first gave you the option to switch. It's
probably saved in the cookies. If that is really the problem you will have to deal with this anyway, because they are probably going to start offering region-specific version for other countries as well.

Any new development on this issue?
