Sort by Series name, series number

Hi, I've just switched from Calibre and finding my way around the pro version of Alfa. I had a couple of questions to get me started...

1. In the main window can I sort by Series/Series Number? E.g. Dresden Files Book 1, 2, 3, etc. This would make it much easier to find the next in series book to read.

2. Also, I have tags that split series by various authors, for example my Raymond Feist books are tags as "Feist - 1. Riftwar", "Feist - 2. Krondor's Sons" etc. The theory is that sorting by the tag would sort by Author and then series. In Alfa can I sort by tags in a similar way for the main window or does Alfa offer an alternative/better way of sorting. Esentially sorting by Author - Series - Series Number would be perfect.

Thanks, Mark.

Hi Mark,

1. Yes, just select Series in the Sort drop-down list

2. Tags in Alfa are used to filter book list, not to sort. Maybe you can use one of Custom fields for that. Custom fields can be sorted

Hi, regarding question 1, sorting by series does indeed sort by series, but where is the series number stored and how is that sorted? When I sort for example the Dresden Files 10 books, it does not show them in order.

Hi Mark,
I just checked - Sort by series works fine. It sorts books by Series field that you can find in the Book card
If the sort doesn't work for you, please send us the screenshot to suppot@alfaebooks.com

Hi,

Sort by series does work. What is not working for me is series number within series. So I would expect book 1 to be first in the list, followed by book 2, book 3 etc.

Does that make sense?

Mark

yes, it makes sense, but there is no dedicated field for "book # in series". You can use of the Custom fields for this

If I use a custom field can I then sort by series/custom field?

you can filter by Series and sort by Custom field

Can you add this data field in a future version? I think this will be useful as it is used also by other software like Calibre and can be used when reading/writing metadata.

we'll consider this field for the next versions

I'll add my vote for this functionality Otherwise the series filter option from the left-hand panel doesn't really do much, since it considers each individual book in the series to be it's own series. You can sort by series, but that doesn't filter the books to only that series.

This is pretty much a missing functionality.

Yes. MartineV is right. Please consider this field for the next versions
