Unknown Application Error

Hello,

While Adding my books from an external Hard Disk, I am getting the following error:

---------------------------
Alfa eBooks Manager 5.5.6.2
---------------------------
Unknown Application Error

System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.

Parameter name: source

at System.Windows.Threading.ExceptionWrapper.TryCatchWhen(Object source, Delegate callback, Object args, Int32 numArgs, Delegate catchHandler)
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

This happened when the scan completed and 2104 books were added and I clicked on the "Save" button of the 'Scan' dialog.

Please help... I am not able to add the books because of this error.

Hi usually this error during scan is caused by a corrupted book file. Please try to uncheck all options in Scan and add the books to Alfa. Does the error persist?

In the bottom of the Scan window you can select how to detect duplicate. If you select "By path", the files that are already in the database won't be added

Nope...I have unchecked everything, still the error message appears...

Also, I am unable to find the Detect Duplicate "By Path" option in the scan window. Please see the screenshot here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3c886c0zqsjdnlt/screenshot1.PNG?dl=0

Please try to scan a small folder. If the error persists, than the problem is in the database file. Try to create a new database

Under the books list in the Scan window there is line "Duplicates by" - select File Path

Hi,

OK
---------------------------

This happened on a newly created database file while scanning for books with all the options unchecked except "Scan subdirectories". Since the database is newly created, i guess it won't be corrupted.

I am on a Windows 10 machine, with .NET framework 4.6

Vipin, please check in the Task Manager, how many processes of Alfa Ebooks Manager are launched when you run the program

rvipinkumar@gma...
rvipinkumar@gmail.com's picture

There is only one Process running for AEM. Please see the screenshot here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0eq7uoxr11e5cuq/2015-09-26_22-03-02.png?dl=0

ok, it's fine
please try to add books from your computer (not external hard drive). Does the problem persist?

rvipinkumar@gma...
rvipinkumar@gmail.com's picture

Yes...Looks like It's working with the ebooks available in my Local hard drive of the laptop.
Problem in that case is, I have all my ebooks in the External drives.

Do you connect external HD via USB without any special options?

I do connect it via USB. What does "Special options" mean? It's a Western Digital External Hard disk with a power cord and a USB wire to connect to the laptop.

Hey guys, any updates on this? I am with an unusable software for the past 6 days now...

Sorry, but it's quiet difficult to catch this bug remotely
Please check, is the Library Explorer panel opened when you scan your external drive?
Also can you try to scan books on any other external USB flash. Does it give the error?

rvipinkumar@gma...
rvipinkumar@gmail.com's picture

It's ok... The Library Panel is not open.
These are the exact steps: Create a New Database file --> Scan for Books.
The Application seems doing something (as evident from the mouse cursor) and then the above error message appears.

I have tried it in 3 different drives and all of them shows the error message.

Please open in Alfa menu Lookups -> Drives, open the external hard disk drive and send us the screenshot of this window

I didn't see anything on the Lookups --> Drives screen. It's just blank.

Another interesting thing happened... I uninstalled the Pro version I have, and installed the free version of the Alfa manager and Voila...It read all the books from my external drive. I checked in the Lookups --> Drives menu of the free version and there were no drives mentioned there either... There were no error messages and it worked perfectly... (It showed me I have to be a Pro user if I want to save the list of files when I clicked on the Save button of the Scan dialog)

I uninstalled the free version and installed the Pro version again, and those error messages started appearing again. The Lookups --> Drives screen is still blank.

Please manually add one book from your external hard drive (Books -> Add File) and then check the Lookups -> Drives window. Does the drive appear?

rvipinkumar@gma...
rvipinkumar@gmail.com's picture

Wow...Yes the drive did appear. I tried adding my files from the external drive and now I am getting the following errors in the order after the Scan has been completed and the Save button is clicked...

https://www.dropbox.com/s/6y0k4y7dhdvs3ml/2.PNG?dl=0

Good thing is I am now able to see all my ebooks in the middle pane inspite of those errors (I clicked OK on the error messages). Any idea what that error means?

Please send us to support@alfaebooks.com a couple of your book files. Also let us know what interface language you use in Alfa
