Why do I need Adobe Acrobat Pro to search scan for ebooks?

I was scanning my comp for ebooks and kept getting an error need acrobat professional. Why do I need Adobe Acrobat Pro to search scan for ebooks? Is it necessary to scan for .pdfs and how can I work around this requirement?

Hi David,
During the scan process Acrobat Pro can be used to create the preview thumbnails from pdf files. You can either disable this option (Create preview) or install free GhostScript instead of Acrobat Pro. To install GhostScript open Tools->Options->PDF programs

I've got Acrobat Pro installed and working on my computer but I still get the error message saying I need Acrobat pro - why's that? Also, I've installed installed the ghostscript thingy and the related dll file in system32 and it still doesn't work.

Please, send to support@alfaebooks.com your Acrobat Pro and Windows parameters
In case with GhostScript, please make sure that you have copied gsdll32.dll to the software root folder and selected the appropriate radio button in Tools->Options->PDF Programs
